Taking the Graduate Australian Medical School Admissions Test

The GAMSAT, Graduate Australian Medical School Admissions Test, is an examination used for application to Australian, Irish and British Professional Schools of Medicine, Dentistry and Veterinary Medicine. The examination is similar to the MCAT in which applications write the examination during there final years of their Bachelors in order to apply to the professional schools thereafter. It is an examination used for acceptance. The GAMSAT is provided by the Australian Council of Education and Research (ACER) and is administered yearly in April in Australia and September in the United Kingdom. Doing well on the GAMSAT is crucial in obtaining an interview to a medical school or other professional schools.

The GAMSAT tests basics in biology, chemistry, english and physics, similar to the MCAT, and takes an entire day, from 8 am to 4 pm. It is made up of 3 sections. Section 1 consists of 75 questions from the Arts (e.g. humanities and social sciences) to be complete in 100 minuntes. Section 2 consists of 2 essays to be done in 1 hour. Section 3 consists of 110 physical science questions to be complete in 170 minutes.

Overall, the examination is easier than the MCAT and follows a similar format and level of difficulty. Writing both around the same time would be strategic.
